You need to use your voice to find your voice

Notebook and pen on desk

“I’ll start showing up more… once I figure out what to say.”

Sound familiar?

It’s one of the most common things I hear from wellness practitioners, and I get it.

There’s this idea that you have to find your voice before you start creating content.

Before you hit publish on that post.

Before you send the email.

Before you share your story.

But here’s what I’ve learned (and what I want to offer you today):

That belief? It’s a myth.

And it’s keeping way too many brilliant, heart-centered practitioners stuck in their heads and out of the spotlight.

If you’ve felt like you need more clarity before you can create consistently, this post is for you.

We’re going to unpack why this belief feels so real (because it really does), how it sneaks in and sabotages your momentum. and most importantly, what to do instead.

Why this myth feels true

Whether it’s conscious or not, you probably feel the pressure in the online space to create amazing content.

You scroll past content that sounds polished and confident… and instead of feeling inspired, you start second-guessing yourself.

“I don’t sound like that.”

“What if I say it wrong?”

“Do I even know what my voice is?”

And because you care deeply about your message, your clients, and your integrity, you want it to feel aligned.

So you drag your feet.

You overthink.

You try to get it just right in your head before ever putting it out there.

Totally not your fault.

The pressure to sound “professional” or “clear” or “on-brand” can be paralyzing.

But actually…

Waiting to find your voice is only delaying the inevitable.

You don’t get to clarity by spiraling in thought loops.

You get clarity by creating.

Why This Keeps You Stuck

When you try to find your voice before using it, here’s how it plays out:

You second-guess every idea before you even start writing.

You write something, then immediately delete it because it doesn’t “sound like you.”

You spend hours tweaking one Instagram caption…only to never post it.

And over time, this cycle erodes your confidence.

Instead of building momentum, you stay in your head.

Instead of creating content that connects, you wait for clarity to strike.

Instead of showing up consistently, you tell yourself you’ll “start next week.”

The result?

Your message (the one that could truly help someone!!) stays hidden.

And your ideal clients? They’re still searching for someone who speaks their language.

They just don’t know it’s you because you haven’t shown them yet.

What to Do Instead

If waiting until you “find your voice” keeps you stuck, what actually helps you find it?

Using it.

Even before you feel ready.

Even when it feels messy or awkward or uncertain.

Here are a few ways to start doing that.

1: Use prompts to spark ideas

Sometimes, staring at a blank page is the hardest part.

Instead of waiting for inspiration to hit, use strategic prompts to get your thoughts flowing. You’ll often find your voice in the process of responding.

Hint: I include plenty of prompts in my programs!

2: Let ChatGPT be your brainstorming buddy

Do a brain dump into ChatGPT and then ask it to draft rough ideas, outlines, or even full content. Then refine it to sound more like you. Think of it as co-creation. The more you guide it with your thoughts, the more it helps you clarify what you really want to say.

3: Share small thoughts on social media

You don’t need a 1,200-word blog post to use your voice. Try short-form content. This can be a thought, a story, or a belief. Then pay attention to what resonates. Sometimes your community will help reflect your voice back to you.

4: Experiment in emails

Email is a great place to play with tone, storytelling, and personal connection. Try a behind-the-scenes story or a vulnerable share. Then track what gets clicks or replies. Engagement is one of the best clues that you’re hitting your messaging sweet spot.

5: Record voice memos or talk it out

Not a fan of writing things down at first? Try speaking your ideas into a voice note or Voxer-style message. Sometimes your most authentic language flows when you're talking, not typing.

6: Revisit things you’ve already said

Scroll your old posts, emails, or even text threads with colleagues or clients. Notice the phrases or patterns that feel most you. Your voice is already in there! You might just need to spot it and start repeating it more intentionally.

And especially...give yourself permission to practice.

Your voice isn’t something you discover and then “get right” from now on.

It evolves.

It refines.

It strengthens every time you use it.
