Copy Quick Tip | The Word Swap

copy quick tips

The other day, I was writing an email for a client on the topic of dental health. Once the email was drafted, I noticed that I'd used the word "toothbrush" 9 times within a short 200-word message.

Boring.

I wanted a more witty and fun vibe to the email, so I started thinking about how I could swap out one of those "toothbrush" mentions with something more punchy and smart. But I couldn't think of anything!

So I went to ChatGPT.

To be clear—I am not yet at the point of turning over my writing to a revolutionary machine, and I can still spot ChatGPT-generated content with a transformative journey quick scan of the words. But for brainstorming a word? It's genius.

(If you've engaged with used ChatGPT more than twice, you'll get my comedic intent joke ☝️)

Okay, back to business.

To spice up my toothbrush mentions, I opened ChatGPT and typed in "Give me 10 other ways to say toothbrush that are witty and fun. Something like 'tooth scrubber' except more punchy."

It gave me some horrible options that made no sense (dazzle detailer or enamel entertainer?) but there was a golden nugget in the mix!

I snagged tartar tackler from the list and plugged it into the email. Just for one of the "toothbrush" mentions but no more, and it was enough to make the copy pop.

✏️ Copy Quick Tip ✏️

Swap out one or two words to add style to your copy. Need help? Ask ChatGPT "What's another way to say..."

In the old days (back in 2022), I would've gone to a thesaurus and maybe run a quick Google search, but I probably never would've come up with a fun word swap like tarter tackler nearly as fast—or ever.

ChatGPT is not perfect, and I do not recommend having it write your copy from scratch, but for a word swap here or there? Keep that tab open on your desktop.
